    Default Need Manual Transmission Guide

    Hello,
I discovered that my Gregorys manual only shows you how to remove and install the manual transmission
and not how to pull it apart. I have already removed/replaced when changing the clutch.
Are there any manuals hard or soft copies on pulling one apart?

    Cheers
    Peter

There are the manuals from Mitsubishi which are great.
They show it step by step tear down and all torque settings etc

They are available in PDF format on the internet.
Just go to google and type:
    filetype:pdf TRANSMISSION CODE

(I do not know the transmission code for the 3rd gen, so just place that there)

I have just tried this for the 5 speed AUTOMATIC transmission "F5A51"

    https://shop.ukrtrans.biz/wp-content...logs/F5A51.pdf

    It results in:

    MITSUBISHI F5A5A (F5A51) & HYUNDIA/KIAA5GF1, A5HF1 (F5A51)

172 pages of potentially useful information.

I don't know the transmission code for the Magna 5 speed manual, but the search term posted by Spetz is a good one.

Wow I wouldn't have thought it would be that easy. Downloaded!
    Thanks Spetz
BTW the Manual Transmission code is F5M51
Wouldn't have guessed that one in a million years.

The manual I downloaded does the job. Unfortunately it only gives part numbers for things like spacers and snap rings. I would like to replace the main bearings and need the part numbers for those so that I can order from a bearings wholesaler. Can anyone suggest where I could get the part numbers? A lot of sites want you to register and I don't really want to do that if they don't have the info I require.

This looks similar to some sites I came across last night. Unfortunately they don't list Magnas.
I tried to do a search on the gearbox number F5M51 but it came back with "Permanently out of stock"
Although it more likely means that they don't recognize that part number.
One mechanic suggested getting a repair quote form a Mitsubishi mechanic which should include part numbers.
I might have to do that, although I don't like playing people that way.
The other option is to register with a bunch of sites so that I can download what they offer as a manual and hope that one will have the require part numbers in it.

They do not list Magnas, but they do list Diamantes.
You'd need to confirm that the part you want was in the Diamante since there are some variations (for example, the front suspension on the JDM Diamante is double wishbone not strut).

I would suspect that permanently out of stock for the F5M51 might mean that they no longer stock the entire gearbox?

I ended up getting a reco kit by Austtrans through my local bearing supplier.
It includes all bearings and oil seals
    Part number K-MIT5220
Although it does not include 2 small oil seals that are located each in the end of a shaft.
So I have to be careful not to damage the originals.
There internal and help with circulating oil.
I have already done the input shaft,
Still got output shaft, diff, reverse idler and case bearing outer races.
I'm trying not to drive my car too much at the moment.
I'm sure now I can feel a shaft move between accaeleration and deceleration. Nervy!
I don't want to end up somewhere with a box full of neutrals
    or worse still locked up.

    How much was this kit?

This transmission is definitely used in other Mitsubishi vehicles, so if you find out which these are you can go to amayama and buy these seals and other things you need.

I have used amayama many times before and the prices are generally quite good. In fact, OEM parts from Amayama are cheaper than aftermarket parts in Australia. They also have an Australia warehouse so I'd say that many OEM items for these cars would be available in that warehouse (which is in NSW somewhere).
