Help please! Freaking headlight change!

Changed my high beam and headlight globes today... well save for the drivers side headlight.

Such a bad design - the drivers side has no room to move to get the globe. And as I was removing the globe the spring assembly popped out! Great.... Just spent 1 hour trying to get the spring back in... No success.

Can someone help me out please? What should I do

If I could see what I was doing I may be able to get somewhere - but it is not possible due to the position of the assembly in the engine bay.

I think if I removed the headlight completely that might be one way to put it back on - the only problem is it looks like in the workshop manual that I need to removing the bumper, etc. eeek...
