    the auto is 5 speed but it would be the same ratio in top gear, wouldn't it?

    Nah the 5 speed auto revs at about 2200RPM at 100km/h. Bit of an affect on hwy economy but around town it helps.

    My 4 speed auto revs at about 2600-2800 rpm at 100km/h (from my memory, will test again and report back) so that wouldnt be too different but I suppose it would affect consumption a little. Just from a theoretical sense

    EDIT: rpm actually at 2300 @ 100km/h...see below

    Hmm, my 4 speed sits at around 2200-2300 at 100kmh.

    Yup, I did a recheck and I'm getting around 2300rpm on the freeway. Must have been doing about 120 to get those readings. If that's the case then there wouldn't be too much difference in fuel consumption at those speeds for both cars then right? (5 or 4 speed).
