I'm 99% sure it is integrated, that said there is a separate computer which controls the variable lift function, only the lift, it appears to be a piggy back add on as the European outlanders which run 4b12 which has no lift control share the same ecu as 4j12 less the piggy back , whether the control of that unit is the main ECU's rom i dont know.
