    Default $400 Per Tyre???

Well rang Bob Jane today to find out about getting some new wheels fitted, Motegi FF7 18x7.5, GTVi's come standard with 17x7.5 wheels and 225/50/17 tyres.

    Width 225
    Aspect Ratio 50
    Rim Diameter 17"
    Speed Rating V
    Load Rating 94

The Motegi FF7 comes in a maximum size is 18x7.5 and @ $275 per wheel I thought it's not too bad.

Then the guy at Bob Jane hit me with a bomb shell, the only tyres available to fit on these are either a brigestone valued at around $450 per tyre or a Michelin @ just under $400 per tyre. The tyre size required for this wheel to keep it as close to my standard diameter as possible is 225/45/18 .

I've done searchs through these forums and read all the threads relating to this but havn't found anything on alternatives to this tyre except to change to a different tyre size and wheel. I would prefer to go with the 18" wheels and lower the tyre profile to keep the wheels & tyres as close to the standard diameter as possible but if it's going to cost me $1600 each time I need a new set of tyres well that's just stupid.

Has anyone here come across this and found a cheaper tyre in this size or at least know why this particular tyre size is so expensive.

that particular size is so expensive as it's uncommon 235/40/18 is the most common 18" size and you will find they are much cheaper thats due to that size being std fittment on comm/falcs

i once had 18" tyres that were $485ea due to the size

you wont find the correct tyre profile and width much cheaper or have as much as a selection in an 18" and dont bother going to a 19" if you wanna keep things legal either

    i suggest staying at 17"

even my 20's are cheaper than that

DONT BELEIVE A THING SAID AT BOB JANE!!! Just basing that on my experience with my local store. The guy there tried to tell me it would cost (at the cheapest) $240 per tyre for 215/50r15 profiles. I then looked around and saw wheel and tyre packages for bigger rims and tyres from $999 so I said "well I'll get a wheel package then", n he starts trying to sell me an 18" wheel package (illegal without cert.) that costs $1500 n I kept saying nah man I just want something for $1k. He even put one of the 18s on my car to try and convince me. I said to him "you got 2 mins to get that off my car or I'm driving off with it".

To shop at BJ you really have to research their prices then go in and tell tham what you want exactly.

No GTVi's come standard with 17x7 wheels - which would make 235/45R17s (which no doubt they will try and sell you) technically illegal.

As for 225/50R17s with 94V - ring around. I picked up Falken ZE329s for $210 each, Bridgestone Pontenza G3s can be $225-235 each

The guy at Bob Jane's is taking you for a ride = ring around - their only tyres for christ's sake

Be aware that the diamater of the rim being more than 2 inches over is a OLD law that no longer applies......... Its the WIDTH of the rim nowadays, and on a magna based on weight you are able to go to 51mm over largest available width on that model.
