    Default Differences between TJ and TL (AWD Auto)

    Does anyone know whats required to get a TJ AWD Auto to work on an TL AWD auto?

    The TJ has the speedo going into it, so if it is put in a TL, would it work?

    The TJ & TL AWD transmissions should be identical mechanically. The only major changes between the models was suspension (TL got a thicker rear sway bar) side impact door beams and side air bags, the TL got the ralliart power steering pump (for better feel) and the good looking front end. Engine & transmission, brakes, chassis and diffs all stayed the same. The limited budget they had for the TL was spent on improving the side impact protection (a requirement to meet new standards) nad paying some Euro guy to design the front end. Hope this helps.

    The TJ & TL AWD transmissions seem to be identical mechanically, except for the speedo connection is missing on the TL version.
    Does that mean there are some electronic component differences as well inside the gearbox?

    Interesting........ maybe one of the more technical members can answer this one. I just looked at the service manuals for the TL & TJ AWD transmission and they appear to be identical for the vehicle speed sensors????

    Thought I'd better get around to making my first post -and what an exciting topic!

    There where some bits of metal added around the body, and some "high strength" steel added as well. Have got a NZ brochure pdf that explains all -somewhere. You can see the thick plate of steel added under the front foot well's from under the car -quite chunky!

    I think this extra steel is good for about 60kg......

    I'll see if I can find NZ brochure to post.

    I tried posting the NZ brochure but got the following reply;

    Your file of 954.9 KB bytes exceeds the forum's limit of 732.4 KB for this filetype.

    But I've cut a bit out of the pdf, here it is in all it's pixelated glory (not much better in original, tho other pics in brochure are well worth it!).

    I think the OP was reffering to the differences between the tansmissions.

    Hi PTPE_AWD, I'd like to see the part of the NZ brochure you said you attached but I can't find it. Do you have a link to it that I could use?

    Cheers,
