Default SRS Light wont turn off after removing passenger seat

Alright guys i removed my passenger seat in my 2005 vr tw wagon to fit a tray and waeco fridge
Before doing so i searched how to do it without affecting the SRS...
So i initially disconnected the battery and left it for a half an hour and came back and removed the seat by first unclipping the airbag cable..
Since then the SRS light comes on and wont turn off.
I really don't want a mechanic to charge me $200+ to turn it off like the previous owner of the car had done (i have the receipt) so im hoping someone can tell me some special way of resetting it easily or even if an OBD scanner can reset it?
And if because the SRS lights on does that mean if i crash they wont activate?
    Cheers in advance

I won't, of course, guarantee that the following post:

    https://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/sh...=1#post1161843

will fix your problem, but it could be a good, easy starting point.

    If you google:

"SRS light aussiemagna" you will get:

    https://www.google.com/search?q=srs+...hrome&ie=UTF-8

which provides a good number of results(one of which is the one I linked to above) that might give you some points to look at.

    In other words, use:

    "<desired search term> aussiemagna"

    Here is another thread:

    https://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=63083

which I have not looked at in detail myself, but seems to provide "on topic" suggestions.

Let us all know how you get on.

Such updates about problems solved is a foundation of making the forum work for everyone.....newbies and long termers alike.

My drivers seat will soon need some refurbishment, so any relevant information that you provide will be useful.

Did you put the seat back after that?

Nah dude, i removed it to place a tray down that holds my waeco 40lt fridge in place.
I know I should've disconnected both cavles off the battery as i only disconnected the negative for 40ish minutes before removing the seat which i believe has triggered the fault light.
Just wanting to know if a OBD 2 scanner can clear the codes and reset it and if that works will that mean the rest of the airbags still work?

It's a shame it took "RedTW's" common sense and not jumping to conclusions(like I did) to get to the bottom of this.

Of course your SRS light is going to illuminate if the battery cable is reconnected if the seat is not in place to receive the seat electrical harness airbag connector.

There is not much more to be said except silly me for me wasting my own time trying to help you because you did not specify that the seat was still out of the car.

EDIT: I strongly suspect, as has the next poster, that you may face problems at time of reregistration inspection(at least in my state of NSW).

AFAIK, you would need to have a "Blue Slip" inspection carried out (or "over the pits" or the Victorian equivalent) to have the seating capacity of the vehicle reduced from 5 passengers to 4.

I have been away from needing to keep up to date with some of the more obscure roadworthiness issues for a very long time(such as seating capacity/configuration), but I consider that you might face some difficulties with your new set-up.

I hope the rest of your car is "ship shape".

    Nope.

Dealer only. Sometimes you can be lucky and the light will go off itself if its plugged back in soon enough.

The rest of the airbags will work though if you have removed the seat with an SRS system you will have a defective vehicle if you get stopped by the police.
