Default First time posting, replacing the flywheel on a KR Verada

Hey all, I'm wondering what is involved in doing a flywheel on a KR Verada? I'm going to be looking at it soon, a family friend has it just sitting in their front yard doing nothing and I've got a chance to look at it and possibly buy it, it is pretty straight but has been sitting for a few years, I'm pretty good with my cars but this is my first time doing much with a Magna, would anyone be able to pass any advice to me about what I should be doing with the flywheel and anything else?

    Nice story bro.

Except you forgot to mention what is wrong with the flywheel that requires it to be 'done'!

Sorry, it sounds like the ring gear has been chewed out, it was parked up after that.

Pull the starter motor out and have a look at the teeth on the ring gear. It may be a problem with the starter motor, not the ring gear.

It is generally the case that the starter doesnt turn until the pinion is fully engaged. This design feature was intended to eliminate most of the ring gear wear. If there is ring gear or pinion wear, there may be a problem with the starter motor turning before the pinion is engaged fully.

Hey all, I had a look at the flywheel, and it has been chewed out a bit, I was wondering were the ring gear a replaceable unit or do I have to get a complete flywheel unit? Also it is a KS model, not a KR, also what else should I do while the transaxle is out? Thanks again
