Hello gang, once again I seek info from the resident experts.
My TR 3 ltr 5speed manual gearbox has turned to shit.
400K from home, changing from 5th back to 4th ..... crash.
Gear lever is not able to be moved, it's locked solid. After much swearing, jiggling etc, I managed to get 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Try for 5th or reverse, it locks up solid.
Having looked at the pictues in the book, I assume either the needle rollers or the bearing has self-destructed on the end of the 5th/reverse shaft.
Before you say it, YES, all oils were new, correct quantities & qualities used.
I'm quite capable of fixing this, but I have two questions,
1. Is it possible to remove the transaxle without removing the engine?
2. Are any special tools required to dismantle the gearbox?
Plan B is to chase a second hand gearbox, is that a better option?
Any and all replies will be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks, Terry
