    Default TW hesitating, surging

Well maintained 190k dual fuel TW wagon: today it started to occasionally hesitate and surge. It's as tho' I'd taken my foot from the pedal then put it back.

Over the last couple of years it's had all new plugs, leads, rotor, cap, timing belt, water pump.

Could be lots of things I guess, but any suggestions for where I should start would be appreciated.

maybe stumbling is a better description.

PS: it was on gas at the time. And when it runs fine, it runs fine.

Idles ok, good with light throttle but staggers with more throttle = probably coil.
Idles ok, good with a decent bit of throttle but staggers or stalls with a feathered throttle = possibly MAF (air flow sensor) on the way out, dodgy EGR valve or solenoid, leaky vac hose etc. (ie. unmetered air entering the plenum).
