    Default CH Lancer clutch

    The CH Lancer from 2004 has a clutch problem . . .

It's being used as a 'loaner' at the moment. Changed the oil and filter yesterday and took it for a bit of a drive, first time in about 15,000 km. Noticed a problem that was evident before has gotten a lot worse.
(Speedo is currently at 55,000 km.)

Problem is . . . 2nd gear, slow for a corner, throttle off, clutch up all the way, come out of the corner and gently press accelerator, and there is a lot of slack that needs taking up before the car takes up drive again, pretty rough action. Pretty much like a Magna with lots of play in the diff, or stuffed engine mounts, or a driveshaft problem. (Those bits obviously need checking before I can narrow it down to the clutch)

Lots of info/complaints on Google about the clutch failing on the CHs early on in their life, so it may come down to that. Clutch centre has some spring/rubber blocks in it to absorb shock loads, these are (possibly) the source of the problem.

Question - is there a heavy duty clutch plate or modified plate available for the CH?

Unfortunately (for my wallet) the Lancer is in constant use, I even had to make an 'appointment' with my son to get the car off him just so I could do that oil and filter change.

So he will probably drive the car to the point where something lets go, followed by a tow to the local Mitsu dealer and a hefty bill for me.

(Yes, sonny does have a history of driving cars into the ground. Seems to think cars never need any attention.)
