Does anyone know the real reason magnas are so damn cheap? It actually shits me something severe. You see 97-98 VT commodores on them with 130ks n they want 14-15. Yet u find a 1999 or 2000 Magna with maybe between 100-130ks and they want like 12. Or something ridiculous like that, i see it all the time in the paper. I think if half of these people drove a magna they might change their opinion.

Its not fair to all these Magna people that get shit all for their cars when they sell them, when its been noted by motor journos that in alot of ways the Magna is superior to a commodore or falcon and even camry in some aspects!!!! MMAL should never have cost cutted as hard as they did. THey should have just marketed better

Mitsubishi really needs to review their marketing stratagies - I don't think ive even seen one single TV Ad for the new Magna yet.

Seen plenty of the new AWD V8 Commodore though - which i happen to think wouldnt be a bad thing. V8+AWD sounds cool

The had a very bad start, lots of crucial problems with the original magnas, and that has given them a stigma that's been hard to shake.

Plus, as someone mentioned on here before, fleet sales have harmed their resale too.

Problem is that they are volume discounted so often... and they're a fleet car. It just creates a domino effect of value loss for every year model that passes.

The marketing thing yes I can understand that. But all of the big four car makers do too with the fleets. THere are craploads of commodores and falcons as fleets also magnas and even camrys. And ford and holden to taxis and maybe camry and magna the odd taxi

One of the reasons i was given was that when a new model is about to be released, the old outgoing model is heavily discounted by dealers thus affecting resale value. You might notice that holden etc are quite clever when introducing a new model so the older model isnt affected. So yeah i could be wrong but apparently its something to do with discounting/pricing at dealerships. And as someone mentioned before its the stigma that magnas have poor reliability. When we were looing into buying a magna, everyone from people at work to mechanics said that magnas are quote "shit cars with poor reliability" and amongst other things that we would regret the decision. Apparently the engine was supposed to leak oil and transmissions supposedly had nasty reliability issues. The car we bought (off a family friend) a th 3.5l 99 magna executive was advertised for $11500 in september 2003 and not many people were intrested. In the end we bought it and people still criticise us. So yeah just my 2 cents worth.

My guess is that because they are not a Falcon or Commodore (traditional H vs F and all that), and they don't have the 'ultra reliable' reputation the Camry has built up, the Magna's a little left out.

It doesn't worry me, better deals for used car buyers

I can see one major issue with magna marketing as well and that is at the dealerships.

You go to any mitsu dealer and in side the show room you will find around 3-4 full bodykited lancers and mirages from CE to CG to newer ones (reason being they are more popular among younger generation), and few verada's and one odd VR_X/sports.

now go to holden dealer and what you will see quite a few HSV's and SS standing there which (i have to admit) got looks no matter what and not to mention the VY berlina's. same goes with ford and toyota.

biggest problem with MMA is they try to show the people that magna is an out standing car ( which it is) and very sporty but they dont market it like that. specially at the show rooms. so when a potential buyer sees a TL-Vr-x add on TV and goes to a dealer he is being greeted by few very hot looking lancers (which are very economical, fuel efficient, small and easy on your pocket) or few nice looking verada's ( which are out of their reach) and when it comes to Magna , they got few executives there .
so they end up geing lancers.

i have also seen many dealerships giving out hoted lancers as courtesy cars.

so my point is you treat your main car bad and it bites you in the back. thats what going on with mitsu.

if mitus can show the add of rally bred lancer VR-X why not advertize AWD VR-X Magna the same way.

All bloody tom philips have to do is to atleast visit these forms sometime and we can tell him how to do the marketing of magna.

Hmm you've got a good point there mate, and it's prolly true in it's own light, but if MMAL don't get their thinking caps on in marketing, then hmmmm..........
I highly doubt Tom Phillips would come on here,if he did then pigs would certainly fly
