I do not think there is any need to do much to the motor if running lower boost. 100% need to do something about the engine management and by this I do NOT mean running a piggy back either, I would run a stand alone engine ECU to ensure that all fuel and ignition is fine

Lag down low will not be an issue as you do not drive around at 900rpm all the time, by the time you get a few revs up to drive the SC will be producing some boost anyway.
