If it was an international Diamante he wouldn't be calling it a TR Magna for starters. Only the Australian built examples will have reference to TR/TS etc, with the Japanese built Diamante and Sigma (ie what Europe, the US, Japan, and NZ received) being called the F13A/F15A/F17A/F27A

The TE (for lack of better way of putting it) was also a DOHC and came as a 3.0 or 2.5 as well as MIVEC or GDI but lets not confuse the lad here.
The 3.5 DOHC in the same orientation as the TR/TS/3000GT/GTO/1st gen Diamante came from the S22A Debonair, and then they were also mounted longitudinally in the 90s Pajero.

The 2nd gen Japanese Diamante (ie TE/KE+ shape) DID come with SOHC engines - in the form of the MVV 2.5 6G73 for the early models and then the 2.5 6A13 for the later models. Still no 3.5 though.

This is just an assumption though and I believe an incorrect one, as from personal experience when I visit international forums for specific cars, I refer to them by model and name of the home country of the forum, not what I am used to.

Either way though, let's say he is from Australia, and he made a mistake, and was convinced he was right, is this still the way to welcome a new member?

he was told the TR never came with a 3.5, he has responded telling us we are wrong. He either has a TR 3.0, or he thinks his TF+ is a TR.
